Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help women ease pain, regulate their cycle, harmonise hormones, maximise chances of conception, and manage pregnancy.

Earlier in my Acupuncture career I was privileged to be one a few Acupuncturists who worked under internationally known Debra Betts at an outpatients clinic based at Lower Hutt Hosptital, helping pregnant women manage symptoms.

The Debra Betts Acu-pressure pamphlet has since become a very recongnised publication amongst Mid wives for supporting Women at home with all kinds of pregnancy related concerns, and a staple teaching in my clinic for natural pregnancy & labor support: see https://acupuncture.rhizome.net.nz/download-booklet/

Stemming from these experiences I have been working in all aspects of Women's Health over the last 20 years. I have found Acupuncture to be a great natural option, especially if you have tried a few things without success.

Initial treatments are 1 hour long. This allows time to get a full health history and work out how each part of your body is working together with the other systems for a holistic approach. From this we discuss a treatment plan to fit with needs as well as explaining the acupuncture process and fitting in your first treatment. Follow-up treatments are normally 45mins or 30mins dependant on whats required.

As with many holistic therapies we are working with your bodies natural rhythms to make change. When working with the reproductive system hormones change each week of your cycle. Treatment aims to optimise and/or settle each phase. Therefore it can take up to at least 2 cycles (8 weekly treatments) to see results. During the treatment phase patients often report feeling better within themselves much earlier.

Weather you are choosing a more natural approach or working with the best of what medical science has to offer I am happy to work with you, your doctor, and/or midwife to help monitor and ensure you are getting support where needed.

Fertility Support:

I have been lucky enough to have supported many women conceive through the use of acupuncture. If you are on the IVF waiting list, or pregnancy is not happening as easily as you would like, acupuncture may be a great natural option to enhance fertility.

Treatments aim to support the luteal and follicular phases, uterus blood flow, with nervous system and hormonal regulation. Treatment also offers practical health & lifestyle advise for both Male and Female reproduction.

For IVF related treatment I use the well researched Paulus Protocol which suggests a treatment before and after your embryo transfer. Leading up to this I recommend at least 4-6 preparation sessions to help you feel as good as you can to support the process.

Acupuncture treatment may be able to enhance fertility and help you manage side effects when under taking:

IUI support treatments

IVF Pre & Post Embryo transplant treatment

IVF Preparation & side effect management

Natural fertility cycle management

Reproductive Health conditions that may respond to acupuncture include:

Menstrual Cycle Regulation

Period Pain management

Endometriosis

Fibroid's

Polycystic Ovaries

Hormonal Imbalance

PMT: mood support, bloating, headaches

Menopausal Support:

Acupuncture treatment offers natural treatment options for Peri-Menopausal symptoms. In clinic I often have been able to ease hot flushes, anxiety and other hormonal issues associated with peri & post menopause either alongside or without the need for hormone replacement therapy. It does however require regular weekly courses of treatment to manage each new stage that may pop up.

Pregnancy & Labor support options include:

Turning breech Babies

Induction treatments

Morning Sickness

Temperature Control

Fatigue

Pre birthing treatments to soften the cervix

Natural Delivery support & pain relief

Back pain

Reflux

Oedema

Stress Relief and Relaxation
